Unlikely to appear in America: Dutch tampon ad (August, 1979) showing blue liquid and nudity & meaning of its name "Amira."
See a Modess True
or False? ad in The American Girl
magazine, January 1947, and actress Carol Lynley in
"How Shall I Tell My Daughter" booklet ad
(1955) - Modess . . .
. because ads (many dates).

Ad for Freedom menstrual pads France, 1970s? Magazine unknown
Kimberly-Clark made Freedom pads and tuned its ads
to its French audience while making its Kotex advertising
to suit its long-time American viewers. Great ideas!
Does France differ from America culturally? Is the Eiffel Tower
French?
It's amazing that Americans are allowed to look at
menstrual hygiene ads.
The ad below when compared with the American Kotex ad shows
such a difference.
Even more striking are European attitudes toward
nudity.
See a series showing the importance of white in ads. |
Below: From an unknown magazine probably from the mid 1970s.

Below: Not to put too fine a point on ... Oh, let's put too fine a point on it!
| French ad: Joie de vivre!
| American ad: OMG!!!
|
| |
| Everyone smiles including the missing person in the French ad. What is the American male thinking?
| | | Truth-telling white pants for both. To show some modesty a shadow falls over the crotch of the American woman. No such ambivalence in the French ad.
And both are from Kotex.
