work. Her hands are rough because
she works hard. The hat has tampons
instead of corks to keep away the
flies. Corks are a nick name for
                                    tampons. In Australia the bush
                                    country image is very male
                                    dominated. In reality, there are
many farmers who are women. They
cope with the cycles of days,
                                    seasons, harvest and of course,
their own menstrual cycles. The work
must be done in rhythm with these
                                    cycles.

Bullets are a nickname for tampons.
                                    Both bullets and tampons penetrate
the body and both are in contact
with blood. There is a lot of
violent blood shown in movies and on
TV. This image shows an alternative
view and celebrates the blood of
fertility with a sense of humour.

                                  The Australian Margaret Kalms,
                                      the artist, writes,
                                  Margaret Kalms uses symbolism and
imagery to depict menstruation in a
                                    beautiful way. She gives women
                                    positive images of menstruation to
                                    counteract the negative stereotypes
that are around us all the time.
                                  These photographs are important
social statements on the status and
identity of women and empower women
to be in charge of how they present
                                    their bodies. Prejudice and
                                    embarrassment has stopped some women
                                    from seeking needed health treatment
                                    causing unnecessary suffering. Many
women are reluctant to talk about
how she feels even if she is in pain
                                    or has medical issues. Margaret's
                                    art can help overcome this
                                    prejudice. Margaret has exhibited
