                                  Wine Glass
                                    The symbolism of red wine
                                    representing blood. This symbolism
links with the sacrifice of blood in
                                    many religious traditions. The glass
shape is the feminine form. The
tampon stops the flow. Blood marks
our major life events. We are born
in blood, we begin adulthood in
blood, we begin our sex lives in
blood, we begin parenting in blood.
                                    I celebrate this creative blood.

                                   Burning Pain
Period pain can feel like burning
inside. The pain can be severe and
debilitating but it is for a
                                    beautiful purpose. Although
                                    suffering can inspire great beauty,
                                    debilitating pain should not be
ignored. Some women need to have
                                    their pain treated.

                                  The Australian Margaret Kalms,
                                      the artist, writes,
                                  Margaret Kalms uses symbolism and
imagery to depict menstruation in a
                                    beautiful way. She gives women
                                    positive images of menstruation to
                                    counteract the negative stereotypes
that are around us all the time.
                                  These photographs are important
social statements on the status and
identity of women and empower women
to be in charge of how they present
                                    their bodies. Prejudice and
                                    embarrassment has stopped some women
                                    from seeking needed health treatment
                                    causing unnecessary suffering. Many
women are reluctant to talk about
how she feels even if she is in pain
                                    or has medical issues. Margaret's
                                    art can help overcome this
                                    prejudice. Margaret has exhibited
