Let's compare the Primella with a
Tampax
from a few
months later, March 7,
1970,
that I took from the box right
below (Tambrands donated it to
this museum). Someone, probably a
Tampax quality inspector,
wrote on the box's cellophane
wrapper.

The Primella size is almost
identical to the sanpax
except for the string: the cotton
plug
measures about 2.25 x 0.5" (about
5.7 x 1.3 cm) and the string
about 4" (about 10 cm) long. The inner
(upper here) tube
measures about 2.85 x 0.5" (about
7.3 cm x 1.3 cm), the outer
about 2.75 x 5.1" (about 7 x 1.31
cm). You can see it lacks the holes
that make ridges that hold the
Tampax tampon tubes in place until
a finger pushes the the end.

that further demonstrate that I
was WRONG
to think they were identical. The
blue arrows
point to the straight lip of
Primella and the inward-turned
Tampax that gently grips the inner
tube. The red
arrows show how
differently the tubes are
constructed.

shows another Tampax exclusive to
steady the tubes.
