Max's style (see poster below)
floated everywhere in the 1960s
and 70s in America, even on tampon boxes
and in tampon advertising.
In the air were psychedelics
- and also in other places.
It meant RIGHT NOW and with
it and girls weren't the
only ones enticed.
But that was sufficient for the
Campana Corporation to help lure
menstrual beginners to its (pre)
lubricated-tip tampons. Like those
naughty tampons from Europe, o.b.,
a finger replaced a cardboard
applicator. Lubrication made the
task easier for girls.
Most of the early
tampons had no applicator
(but Tampax
and Lox
did). But I suspect American women
weren't gonna fool around down
there if they didn't have to.
Tampax wrote
about this and other problems
getting women to use tampons.
Tampax later wrote an ad
to get German fingers around its
applicator, not in you-know-where.
The early (1930s?-40s)
no-applicator Dale
tampon (with an ad) also had a
lubricated tip, rare
among menstrual tampons.
