Kotex Ultrathin ad for
girls, probably c. 2000
The Netherlands, publication
unknown
Have you ever lived with a
cat? Two cats? Um, three cats?
So have I.
Like, you know how naughty
they can be, even philosophe
Ennui, le Chat Noir -
oops! I mean Henri,
le Chat Noir - Henry,
the black cat, a Web
purrsonality. Then you'll totally
understand the damage to the
ad below.
(BTW, shouldn't he be Henri,
le Chat Noir et Blanc?
He's black
and white.)
Point is, Margot van Mulken,
the donor, sent me the ad in
perfect condition and I
want to apologize to her and
you on behalf of the cats
and me. Well, at least
me. My clowder of cats is
sleeping throughout the house
and cares less than least - if
I may meo-, er, speak for
them.
Anyway, the ad resembles many
other ads for this age group
such as this one for a tampon
and another pad.
Many more here.

ads.
Margot van Mulken kindly
sent me this ad, one of
scores, along with
many photocopies, as part of
her research for her article
"De verpakking
van maandverband: De
ontwikkeling van retoriek in
tijdschriftadvertenties"
(The Packaging of of
Menstrual Pads: The
Development of the Rhetoric
in
Magazine Advertising) in Tidschift
voor Genderstudies
(Journal of Gender Studies),
2005-1.

Below:
The page measures 8 1/4 x
10 3/16" (about 21 x
26.3 cm).
Cats damaged the ad, I didn't!
Darn cats. See above.

Kotex belongs to me
Name: Genêve
Age: 12
Crazy about: Street
dancing
Favorite color: Light
blue
Always in my sports bag:
Diary, cell phone, makeup,
rubber bands, towel, keys and
... Kotex Ultrathin.
You only want things that suit
you, no matter where you are.
Therefore Kotex has an ultrathin
sanitary napkin for you. You
don't feel it, see it, and it
protects great. Try it. You
certainly won't want anything
else.
Kotex Ultrathin: Much more
than just protection.
